ETHICAL INVESTING

There has been a big leap in the amounts invested in socially responsible funds over recent years driven by a general sentiment towards ethical issues such as climate control and depletion of natural resources.

Ethical funds can include shares, bonds and property.

Not all ethical funds have the same criteria of course, with a variety of aims:-

Negative screening, for example avoiding stocks which invest in tobocca or alcohol or weapons, or avoiding certain polluting industries.

Positive criteria which may for example invest in clean, sustainable projects, promote recycling, make ethical products, and so on.

Ethical property funds may invest in companies which regenerate brownfield sites or invest in social housing.

"Green funds" come in varying shades so it is important to consider their aims so that they are in tune with your own aims and beliefs.
